A Note from Maryn
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sunday 10:11 a.m. EST
Near the park in Batesville, IN
Oy….
We got in around 2 o’clock this morning from a friend’s party.
Nothing crazy, just a bunch of families getting together for a
big grill out about an hour south of Chicago.
But the party didn’t end until about 10 p.m. and we had to drive
4 hours back to Batesville.
Driving back at that time of night is pretty peaceful.
And beautiful…
When we pulled into the driveway and I was stumbling inside with
my sleeping son Egan on my shoulder, I took a look up and saw the
stars.
Most of my life, I’ve lived in cities and larger towns where the
bright lights pretty much make the stars seems like tiny, barely
noticeable dots…
But last night, they were the clearest and brightest I’ve ever
seen, JUST like you see in the constellations books. They were
THAT bright and beautiful.
The Little Dipper looked like it was right in front of me.
And it got me thinking about perspective on the oboe.
Sometimes you can look at the same thing over and over – maybe a
piece of music or a particular reed challenge – and not see what
is REALLY there… And then when just ONE thing changes, it all
becomes clear.
Like the stars I saw last night.
So try it yourself… Take a look at what you are doing from
different perspectives, at different times, in different frames
of mind.
You might discover hidden treasures about your playing that you
never knew you possessed.
OK, now let’s get to the good stuff…
The Latest Reed Special
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We’ve got ONE more quick special for you before we make our
announcement next Tuesday.

But take note:

Due to the nature of what we’ve got coming for you, it’s gonna
probably be the LAST time we offer this.

Really…

So do take advantage of F-R-E-E Standard Shipping on all orders
over $50.00 through Tuesday night.

Use the coupon code below, but hurry, because our shopping cart
is set to deactivate the coupon on at the stroke of midnight on
Tuesday night.

Here are the directions to get the shipping discount, if you
hurry:

HOW TO GET THE SPECIAL
———————–
1. Fill up your shopping cart with reeds.
2. On the left hand side of the shopping cart, click “Enter
Coupon”
3. Enter the following coupon code: laborday06
4. Go to the checkout and complete your order.

(If you choose another shipping method, $9.95 will be deducted
at checkout.)

The clock is ticking. Remember, the coupon will only work until
late Tuesday night… and this is probably the LAST time you’ll
see it.

The Reed/Oboe Tip
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Learn how to put your oboe together without
squeezing any keys or rods.
Make sure the arms on both sides of the oboe line up as
perfectly as possible. The oboe will play much better if
these are aligned, although it is easier on some oboes than
others.
Oboe Reed Trivia
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Each week we feature a bit of oboe trivia to help keep your oboe
brains sharp. Sometimes the questions are easy, sometimes they
are not so easy.

Each Friday night, all of the correct answers we receive from all
of you are put into a hat and one lucky winner is chosen to
receive a special prize.

Congratulations to last week’s trivia winner, Alice Mantey!

Although it varies from person to person, the answer we were
looking for was either the B Key or the E-flat Key.

Alice, just let us know via email where you would like your
prize sent.

Here’s this week’s question:

The modern oboe is a descendant of what medieval/renaissance
instrument?

Submit your answers via email to [email protected] by Friday at
5:00PM CST to be included in the drawing.

Good luck!

Thanks for reading. Until next time…

Happy playing,

Maryn Leister
