A Note from Maryn
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sunday 5:34 p.m. EST
A quiet street in Batesville, IN
I’ve got about 60 days left before my life changes in a BIG way.
In just a few weeks, I am going to have another baby…
So I am working like a fiend to get everything (including the big
MKL Reeds announcement that is coming up in a few days) done so
that I can take some time off and enjoy my new little one.
As I was sitting at my desk the other night tying some blanks for
a customer, I got to thinking just how relaxing it is to just sit
down and do something simple like that.
There I was, just tying and thinking, thinking and tying…
It was calming to focus on something, just ONE thing, long enough
so that my mind could relax into a rhythm.
Believe it or not, it really felt nice.
So as you start to gear up for a busy Fall, don’t forget that
your mind needs a break every now and then. Just focusing on
something else for a little while can really breathe some life
into things.
Don’t forget to take little breaks… it’ll keep you from going
crazy!
OK, now let’s get to the good stuff…
The Latest Reed Special
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We’ve got something with YOUR name on it waiting for you in our
office. Literally, YOUR name is on it.

And you can get it F-R-E-E with any order over $50.00.

But there is ONE catch…

You have to order by midnight on Tuesday night. You’ve got a
little over 48 hours.

Go take a look…

The Reed Tip
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If your reeds are often unstable in the middle range (mostly
middle octave E and F#), take a look at the spine and the heart.
Make sure you are scraping next to the spine, never through it,
and leave the heart thicker than the tip.
Any weaknesses in these 2 areas will make the reed unstable or
“pressure sensitive,” especially on these 2 notes.
Oboe Reed Trivia
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Each week we feature a bit of oboe trivia to help keep your oboe
brains sharp. Sometimes the questions are easy, sometimes they
are not so easy.

Each Friday night, all of the correct answers we receive from all
of you are put into a hat and one lucky winner is chosen to
receive a special prize.

Congratulations to last week’s trivia winner, Erik Donough!

The bottom blade is often made shorter to create a bit more
resistance in the reed.

Erik, just let us know via email where you would like your
prize sent.

Here’s this week’s question:

If the F# on your oboe feels unstable or really sharp (due to
either the reed or your oboe), what key or keys can you add to
remedy the problem?

Submit your answers via email to [email protected] by Friday at
5:00PM CST to be included in the drawing.

Good luck!

Thanks for reading. Until next time…

Happy playing,

Maryn Leister

P.S.

Don’t forget…

The BIG MKL Reeds announcement is only about 16 days away…

Mark your calendars now for Tuesday, September 12, 2006.

Here’s a hint: It hardly has anything to do with reeds.
