The BUZZ
————–
Be prepared for the start of the new school year and orchestral
season, and make it fun with our fall package! We’ve created
a fun package including 2 reeds, a pencil, and an oboe notebook,
to help you kick off the new season in style. Use your MKL Reeds
notebook as a lesson assignment notebook, a practice journal,
to keep lists of pieces you want to play or listen to, or to keep
notes from lessons or masterclasses. Use the brightly-colored pencil
to put a little “sparkle” into your rehearsals and practice sessions!
Make back-to-school and back-to-work fun with an MKL Reeds fall package!

Reed “Tip” of the Month
——————————
Always know the reeds in your reed case! Each of your reeds
can have different strengths and properties that you can use in
different contexts. Be aware of what reeds you have and use them
for different things. If you have a reed that’s a little
old/sharp/flat/buzzy, use it for practicing. If you have a reed
that’s a little hard, use it in rehearsals where you can
break it in. Save your favorite reeds for upcoming concerts and
important rehearsals. Finally, have a good reed picked out for
your lesson BEFORE you get there each week. Not only will this
save time, but your teacher can help you the most if you play
a reed that allows you to do the things he/she asks of you
in your lesson. If you have specific problems with some of
your reeds, bring them to your teacher at your lesson and ask
him/her to make it more functional for you. Every reed is
different and by knowing all the reeds in your reed box, you can
use each one to its fullest potential!
