From the Owners’ Office
———————–
Some months can be pretty crazy here in the MKL Reeds
office. With reeds flying everywhere and boxes stacked up
to the ceiling, sometimes we need to STOP, take a breath
and remember the reason that we do all of this.
We started this company with a simple purpose: To deliver a
small bit of peace of mind to oboists all over the world…
Of course, we deliver this “peace of mind” in the form of an
oboe reed.
An “oboe outsider” might consider our mission a bit
dramatic. After all, just how much pain and frustration
can an oboe reed really create in someone’s life?
If we didn’t live it, we might not believe it either. But
those little things have the power to wreak untold
amounts of havoc in an oboe player’s life.
At any rate, that is why we are here: to make YOUR oboe
life just a bit easier. In the process, we have a lot of
fun and we hope you do too.
That said, every now and then, we like to check in with you
to see what else we can do to help make your oboe life
fuller and more rewarding.
Can we do something better? Quicker? Is there something we
haven’t thought of that would just make your day?
Please let us know. We’re not a big company, just a couple
of crazy oboists who love doing what we do.
Drop us a line and let us know how we’re doing. Call or
write to [email protected].
Thank you!
The BUZZ

Learning about oboe reeds is really a lifetime pursuit.
There is SO much to know, and, much to the chagrin of some
people we have met, NO ONE knows it all. (If they ever
tell you that they do, run away!)
Are you taking advantage of our reed library? We have a
wealth of oboe reed information ready for the taking on our
website. From reed tips to articles about knives, cane
and gouging, there is something for oboists at every
stage of the game.
New stuff is being added all the time so take a look!

Reed “Tip” of the Month
————————-
If your reed is sharp, you can try pulling it out of the
oboe a few millimeters to help get it down to pitch in a
pinch. Another trick is to soak it a bit longer and pinch
the tip open slightly.
Overall, make sure you’re not playing with too much reed in
your mouth, causing you to “go sharp.” That is a bad habit
we can all easily fall into.
