From the Owner’s Office
———————–
As a valued “Reed Report” subscriber, I want to take a moment to
explain the philosophy behind MKL Reeds.
As you probably already know, all reeds are NOT created equal.
And although the world of reeds can seem quite complex, here at
MKL Reeds, we view it as pretty cut and dry.
You see, we don’t sell medium hard, extra hard, super soft,
extra bright, or medium soft super dooper bright reeds. We don’t
try to impress you by giving you choices that really don’t exist.
It’s not that we don’t WANT to impress you, but it just ISN’T that
complicated. This isn’t rocket science after all. Not to mention
that YOUR hard reed might be someone else’s easy reed and someone
else’s medium soft reed.
At MKL Reeds, we believe that there are really only two types
of reeds: those that “play” and those that don’t.
Now by using the word “play,” we don’t mean simply making a sound.
You could probably get a sound out of a piece of tree bark if you blew
hard enough.
When we use the word “play,” we mean that the reed gives you the
freedom and flexibility to make music.
So why do you sell TWO types of reeds, you ask?
Simple.
If you are a beginning or intermediate student, choose the
REGULAR REED. It is extremely easy to play, and will allow you to focus
on your primary goal: learning to play the oboe.
If you are an advanced student or professional, choose the
PROFESSIONAL REED. It is a more refined reed which will allow the personal
style of oboe playing you have developed to be heard.
Either way, as a customer of MKL Reeds, you will get a reed that PLAYS!

Reed “Tip” of the Month
——————————
To get the best results from your REEDMAKING, always keep your equipment
and tools in TOP shape (knives sharp, plaques that are not worn).
To get the best results from your REED, don’t forget to keep your oboe
well adjusted. Oboes go “out” of adjustment quite easily. Sometimes,
just taking a trip in the car is enough to knock it for a loop.
A well adjusted oboe, along with a good reed, makes playing the oboe that
much easier.
