A Note from Maryn
==================

Sunday 8:54 AM
Sedona, AZ

I have a picture to share with you this morning…

This was the view outside our office recently.

It’s easy to take all we have in life for granted and to not
fully appreciate it until it’s gone… but pictures like
this help remind us just how beautiful life really is…
right now.

Enjoy the moment.

Featured Oboe Video
====================

This week’s video is another great one from Quartetto
Gelato.

This is an amazing performance of Danny Boy and it includes
some beautiful oboe playing by Cynthia Steljes, who passed
away in 2006.

You can read a tribute to Cynthia here:

Oboe Thought of the Week

“When it becomes clear that no one else shares your level
of passion, you are where you belong.”

-Placido Domingo

The Oboe Tip
===============

Here’s a great tip from the Reed Report archives:

Play a reed that SUPPORTS your sound. Sounding great on the
oboe is about creating a happy marriage between you and your
reed.

Both of you have to have qualities that support one another.
If you dominate the reed or it dominates you, the going will
be rough.

You might think that playing an easy reed is great, but it
can actually make your life harder if it doesn’t support
your sound correctly.

Of course, playing a reed that is too difficult will make
you feel like your head is going to explode.

How will you know when you’ve found the right one?

Your sound will be stable, and you will feel the resistance
of the reed without it being too hard to play.

Here’s this week’s question:

To whom did composer Samuel Adler dedicate his CANTO XX for
Oboe?

Post your answer on our Facebook(R) Page here:

Thanks for reading. Until next time…

Happy playing,

Maryn Leister
