WANTED:
A New Home For This Lorée English Horn and Bocal... Save Almost $1,000 Off Regular Price!

No Longer Available

Dear English Horn Player,

I am selling my English Horn.

But before I get to the details, let me fill you in on some of the other things you need to know.

I remember it like it was yesterday..

It was the spring of 2000, I was living in Nashville, TN and was making my living as a freelancer. It was a busy year, learning the ins and outs of the country music scene - like the difference between Faith Hill and Trisha Yearwood.

And I needed a new English Horn, fast... I quickly found out that you don't get many freelancing jobs playing second oboe if you aren't prepared to play a few notes here and there on an English Horn.

If I wanted to be a freelancer and pay my bills, I had to get one.

Then, once I got my new English Horn, I spent a long, long time, trying a whole lot of bocals before settling on the one that makes this instrument so beautiful.

If you've ever bought an English Horn before, you already know just how much difference the right bocal can make.

In fact, many times, it is the bocal that turns a good English Horn into a great one. The bocal makes the instrument.

You can have a great instrument with a terrible bocal and you WILL have a bad instrument.

Notes will sag, middle C in particular.

You know, it makes that sound. Like you just can't keep the pitch up, and then at the end of the note it just sags.

You are forced to come up with all of these alternate fingerings to compensate. But the right bocal will fix all of that (along with a decent reed of course.

And this brings me to the point of my letter:

Like I said, I am selling my English Horn, and rather than send it away to a complete stranger, I want to offer it to you, my customers and newsletter subscribers first.

Here's why I am selling it...

The simple reality is, I don't play it.

With two little kids (you can see them in the picture on the right) and one on the way in November, a thriving oboe reed business, and a whole host of other interests, I just don't make much time for my poor little English Horn.

To be frank, I actually have never felt much like an English Horn player. I've always been an oboe player that happened to play the English Horn.

Now if you're looking for a used English Horn, buying this one isn't the only option you have.

After all, you could pay about $7,500 dollars and buy a brand new one from the factory... Of course you'd have to spend time and money getting it adjusted and searching for just the right bocal.

That might be worth it to you, I don't know.

What I do know, is that I've already done much of that work for you.

And granted, this isn't the only used English Horn in the world, but if you've ever looked for a good used English Horn before, you know that they are often harder to find than a four leaf clover.

Want to know why?

Because they last forever!

Once you get a good one, it is rare (like the opportunity you have now) to find someone willing to part with it.

So here's what I am selling:

  • Loree model 'i + 3' Professional English Horn, Grenadilla. Serial # NH 79 bought new in 2000 and barely played
  • In excellent condition, no cracks, with a beautiful, even scale and warm tone. (currently retails for approximately $7,500 new)
  • Case and case cover included
  • Lickman bocal which works great with this instrument! (currently retails for approximately $160 new)

$6800.00 - The price is firm. (U.S. Buyers ONLY.)

Happy playing,

P.S. One more thing... There is absolutely nothing wrong with the English Horn. No cracks or nothin' My dog Emma never ran around the house with it thinking that it was her toy stick or anything like that. It's never been exposed to the hot and humid July 4 concerts you may have just gotten done playing. In fact, up until now, this horn has spent most of its days sleeping peacefully in its case.

P.P.S. If you don't have an English Horn yet and you are serious about making a living on the oboe, now is the time. You will be a more versatile, better prepared player and will never again have to turn down a 2nd oboe job that requires you play two licks on the horn.
